Abortion and the Value of Human Life

Abortion is morally wrong, it’s infanticide, it’s the ugly and fetid stain of our postmodern society, as was slavery for past generations of Americans; it’s our holocaust.

I know people (and I’m sure you do too) who are not “living happily ever after” because of handicaps, accidents, pain, etc. However, they are thankful to be alive. They know how precious life is.

This subject goes to the very meaning of human existence. Why are we here? What is the value of human life? The most troublesome cultural issues of our day- abortion, assisted suicide, euthanasia, genetic engineering- all turn on questions about what it means to be human, about the value of human life and how life should be protected.

However, if a person believes that life arouse from the primordial sea through a chance collision of chemicals, and that over billions of years of chance mutations, this biological accident gave rise to the first humans, then that person will believe that we are little more than grown-up germs. This, logically, leads to the conclusion that a person has no greater significance than a baboon.

It all comes down to the question of where life comes from. It determines what we believe about human identity, what we value, and what we believe is our reason for living. IT DETERMINES WHO LIVES AND WHO DIES.

Christians believe that God created humans beings in his own image. And because human life bears this divine stamp, life is sacred, a gift from the Creator. “Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth” (Genesis 1:26).  He and he alone can set the boundaries of when we live and when we die.

If we believe that we have no more significance than a monkey or a dog, that life has little o no purpose, that this life is all there is and that we will not be accountable to God, then we can come to the conclusion that only the fittest, the pretty, the healthy and the desirable people should live, that we can eliminate the imperfect, the handicapped, the old, the weak and even the ugly. This materialistic and secular worldview is held today by those who believe and promote abortion (infanticide) for any reason, including, of course, the killing of children who will be born with handicaps.

Do we have value because we are healthy, pretty and young, or because we are human beings, the crown of creation and God says that we are infinitely valuable because we bear his image: intellect, free will, eternal soul, etc.? Do we kill a child after an accident has left him handicapped? Of course not! Then why should we kill a child in the womb because he or she is unwanted, inconvenient or we know he or she will have intellectual limitations, physical limitations, or both?

A Couple of Facts About Abortion in America

  •  “A myth NARAL (National Association for Repeal of Abortion Laws and later renamed National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League) fed to the public through the media was that legalizing abortion would only mean that the abortions taking place illegally would then be done legally.  In fact, of course, abortion is now being used as a primary method of birth control in the U.S. and the annual number of abortions has increased by 1,500 since legalization.”   David Kupelian, The Marketing of Evil

Indeed, abortion is a very lucrative business in America today.

  • According to Kupelian’s book,  “Another myth fed to and believed by the public was that there were tens of thousands of women being maimed and killed from illegal abortions prior to legalization of abortion law. Not so. It was only a tiny fraction of what the abortion marketers claimed.”
  •  One abortion movement leader and propagandist said: “We aroused enough sympathy to sell our program of permissive abortion by fabricating the number of illegal abortions done annually in the U.S. The actual figure was approaching 100,000, but the figure we gave to the media repeatedly was 1 million. Repeating the lie often enough convinces the public. The number of women dying from illegal abortions was around 200-250 annually. The figure we constantly fed to the media was 10,000. These false figures took root in the consciousness of Americans, convincing many that we needed to crack the abortion law.”   David Kupelian, The Marketing of Evil
  •  Our nation has legalized infanticide and, as Kupelian says in his book, “ through a very well thought out and executed propaganda campaign gets more and more people to believe that killing an infant  is considered “every woman’s right”.

Guido – Thanks for your comments. You are so right. I turns my stomach every time I think that Obama said the first thing he would do when he became president was to sign FOCA.
Not just as Christians, but as humane people, as parents, especially as mothers who felt lives, not a bunch of cells, growing inside us, we need to be the social conscience for the nation and be pro-active in this, if no other, issue. I can see the ignorance in young people who grew up in this era, but I cannot understand women who have experienced childbirth and still lie to themselves by saying that life begin at an arbitrary point. What point is that, exactly? No one seems to agree. That should tell us something! b

Undeniably believe that which you said. Your favorite reason
seemed to be on the internet the easiest thing to be aware of.
I say to you, I certainly get annoyed while people think about worries
that they just do not know about. You managed to hit the nail
upon the top as well as defined out the whole thing without
having side-effects , people can take a signal. Will likely be
    back to get more. Thanks
